Our vineyards are situated in two locations in the Patutahi Plateau and Riverpoint regions of Gisborne:

BRUNTON ROAD VINEYARD

Patutahi Block

Brunton Road, Patutahi Plateau, Gisborne - Established 1998

Size: 12ha

Soil: Waihere Heavy Silt Loam and Kaiti Clay Loam

Grape Varieties: Merlot, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Viognier

Tiniroto Block

Brunton Road, Patutahi Plateau, Gisborne - Established 2005

Size: 8ha

Soil: Waihere Heavy Silt Loam

Grape Varieties: Pinot Gris

Elevated views sloping towards Gisborne City, and a combination of Waihirere heavy silt loam and Kaiti clay soil, contribute to one of the premium grapegrowing sites in the Gisborne region

Patutahi Plateau is the youngest of the new appellations in the Gisborne region and this area runs west from about Kaimoe Road back towards the hills. It is generally a warmer and drier area of the plains and is less effected by sea breezes.

MATAWHERO VINEYARD

Riverpoint Road, Matawhero, Gisborne - Established 2008

Size: 15ha

Soil: Matawhero Clay Loam

Grape Varieties: Gewürztraminer, Viognier and Pinot Gris

Riverpoint Road is part of the Central Valley and it is situated approximately 5 kilometres from the sea, so it receives the Pacific Coast's cooling sea breezes in the late morning and early afternoon to help temper the heat of summer. The soils consist of deep, free draining slit loams. This area is the historic birthplace of NZ's first Gewurztraminer.

VITICULTURAL TECHNIQUES

Our blocks incorporate trellising systems, which are tailored to suit each variety. A combination of VSP, Sylvos and Spur pruning is used. The viticulture techniques applied in the vineyards are aimed at maximising the fruit quality regardless of the nuances of each vintage. Particular attention is paid to controlling yields along with canopy management to expose fruit to the sun and provide ripe, healthy grapes. We use these techniques to optimise the natural balance between sugar, acid and flavour profile. This creates a delicious degree of balance, texture and palate length.
